Warm Blanket & Clothing Drive

With the unusually cold weather in Toronto and area this year, it is more important than ever to have warm and dry clothing. If you have any used boots, jackets, hats, mittens, blankets, etc., you would like to donate, please put them in your empty bin during the month of January and February ,and we will collect them and make sure they get to Na-Me-Res and The Scott Mission.

Top 10 needs

* new and gently used fall and winter clothing for men, women and children
* men's work pants, shirts and shoes
* new (not used) undergarments for men, women and children
* shoes for men, women and children
* diapers (all sizes)
* non-perishable baby food such as Similac and Enfalac
* non-perishable canned goods (including meats, soups and vegetables)
* bundle buggies

Blood Orange Sherry Vinaigrette

2 small blood oranges
1 medium shallot, minced
2 tablespoons sherry vinegar
Salt
Freshl ground black pepper
1/4 to 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

1. Juice and strain the blood oranges. Measure 1/4 cup of juice.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk the juice with the shallots and the sherry vinegar; season with salt and pepper to taste and let the mixture marinate for 10 minutes.

3. Whisk in the olive oil to taste. Add more olive oil if the vinaigrette is too acidic for your palette. Adjust the seasoning to taste.

Carrots Vichy

In France many swear by cooking these carrots in the pure water of Vichy, said to best bring out the vegetable's delicate flavor, but in truth the dish is delicious made with good water of any origin.
Yield: Serves 4
ingredients
1 pound carrots
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon sugar
preparation

Diagonally cut carrots into 1/8-inch-thick slices. In a heavy saucepan combine butter, carrots, water, and sugar and cook, covered, over low heat, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 15 minutes.
